Identification & Behavior: ~20.5 cm (8 in). The Ochraceous Attila has cinnamon-rufous upperparts with blackish wing coverts and two rufous wing bar. The underparts are yellow-rufous. The bill is black. The iris is dark. It forages in the canopy and midstory of humid and semi-deciduous forest in northwest Peru, in Tumbes. It is similar to the Royal Flycatcher but is distinguished by a stockier body, dusky wings with two rufous wing bars, and round head (not a hammer head as in the Royal Flycatcher).

Status: The Ochraceous Attila is uncommon northwest Peru where it is known to range up to 800 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co and Ec.

Name in Spanish: Atila Ocráceo.

Sub-species: Ochraceous Attila (Attila torridus), P. L. Sclater, 1860.

Meaning of Name: Attila: Attila (406-453) ruler of the Hunnish tribes that ravaged Europe in the fifth century, who revelled in the appellation “Scourge of God.” The Attilas were given this epithet because of their aggressive behaviour and tyrant flycatcher-like appearance and affinities.
torridus: L. , torrid, torrere= burnt, to burn, torridus= scorched.
